Take A Chance
PROCESS LED DESIGN

BRIEF
Take A Chance: A Manifesto is a visual representation of living in the moment and letting it guide you. There are many mistakes throughout this piece and that’s perfectly fine with me because it’s all part of the process. From these creations, I found a new way of looking at life and designing, teaching me to let things happen. Along the way of creating, the right solution will arise.

PROCESS
Take A Chance is a compendium of what happened when I let the act of process lead me. This manifesto was inspired by the chapter “Look for Clues” in the book The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin. The chapter discusses keeping an eye out for subtle messages throughout your day-to-day life that directly relate to you. I used the text from “Look for Clues” as my content, dismantled it, and used chance to piece it back together. I utilized a range of methods to reassemble the chapter, creating new meanings each time. Within each new narrative brings new meanings and clues.
I was also inspired by Oulipo, a group of French mathematicians and writers who created new works using a series of writing constraints. Their most known technique is N+7, where they would replace every noun in a piece of writing with the seventh noun after it in the dictionary. N+7 was my starting point, and I escalated from there. Most of the constraints I used, I made up, some on the spot, others were planned. With each iteration I made, I became inspired to try new things. I kept asking myself what if I did this…?
This piece was focused on process led design, not visual design. I was more concerned about the outcome of new meanings that how the composition or design. Although there were some interesting visuals to come of this too.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED
I allowed myself to be guided by the process and not worry about the final outcome. This led me to focus on what I was making and being inspired by the present moment.
