#Break The Barriers
VOTING CAMPAIGN

BRIEF
#BreakTheBarriers is a voting campaign that participated in a global competition called #WHYVOTEUSA. We teamed up in twos or threes to create a non-partisan communication system that includes three to six images to be used together on social media, a motion graphic (10-15 seconds), and a “vlog” (video diary, thought piece, or interview of at least 30 seconds). This project was a three-week design sprint. Although each group created all three pieces of this campaign, we voted as a class on one piece for each group to submit to the competition.
The #WHYVOTEUSA competition was organized by Creative Conscience and VoiceBox for young adults in education to participate in. This competition aims to boost political participation and educate young people on the power of their vote through creativity.

PROCESS
I worked with Trinity Tubbs and Jenna Vineyard on this project (#TeamCampaignColleagues). Our goal was to design and create a bold campaign that inspires personal and collective growth for the greater good. Often, new voters from multicultural backgrounds face barriers that can silence their voices which discourages them from voting. Our campaign encourages our audience to break down the walls of voter suppression and build bridges of participation in order for their voices to be heard.
We portray these barriers in our designs by covering up important facial features, including the eyes and mouth, as our audience’s opinions are overlooked and their voices are silenced. The narration over the thought piece calls upon our audience to take action against voter suppression. Our campaign emphasizes the strength of diversity and unity of unique voices to bring change using the power of voting.

KNOWLEDGE GAINED
This was the first project where I was consciously thinking about creating a voting campaign with no bias present in any of the content to either voting party. I built upon my teamwork skills, designing as a system and communicating with my group to ensure we are all on the same page. Especially working efficiently and quickly with my group, as we only had three weeks to complete this project. I also further developed my skills in After Effects and FigJam.
