A SERIES OF FOMO

PUBLICATION DESIGN

BRIEF
A Series Of FOMO contains five publications, each reflecting a different aspect of this topic. One, fact based, informing about the subject. Two, build your own FOMO and customize to your desire. Three, photo driven, distorted and customizable too. Four, a collection of stories from my peers, but abstracted. Five, something to take away from this experience. Each book tells a different part of the same story.
Diving deep into FOMO, what it means, how it’s shown, and how it’s felt has opened my eyes and given me a new perspective on the world. A perspective that desires to live in the moment, not worrying about what I could be missing out on. I have accepted my FOMO and am now comfortable with it. I acknowledge it, but I don’t let it take over my life.
The Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) is a real issue that affects people daily. I am one of those people. My entire life I have always felt anxious about missing out on things that my friends and family experience. This feeling stems from the desire to be included, it’s natural. However, this yearning has been amplified due to social media. We all have access to everyone’s lives all the time, making it a lot easier for us to see when someone is having a good time without us.

FOMO is commonly felt among people. To gain a better understanding and learn how other people feel and experience FOMO, I created a survey and asked my peers to answer my questions. The general consensus was that most people do experience FOMO and feel terrible about it, nobody is comfortable with this feeling.

While FOMO is a serious topic that greatly impacts our lives in a negative way, there is a sort of whimsy to it as well. When you really think about it, why are we so afraid of missing out on something? Why not live in the moment instead of worrying about what you're missing out on?
